With Dallas, it looks like the jury is still out on whether or not there are things to do. So with that I decided to put together a list of activities or places in Dallas to show you what the city is all about. After doing some brainstorming, I was able to come up with 12 activities and places. That means with a list of 12 items, there will be something fun to do each month! Perfect for a night out with friend or exploring the city on your own.
If you need some new ideas of what to do in Dallas here is my list:
Something that I love about Dallas is the Katy Trail. Although Dallas is not know to be a city that has a lot of nature activities, the trail is one great option. The trail is great for many different fitness activities whether you are walking, running, biking, or taking your dog out. Recently, the Hot Girl Walking Club has been using the trail for walks that allow for girls to meet other girls in the area. So if you are new in town this is a great way to meet new people!
Another thing about the trail is that there is a restaurant off of it called the Katy Trail Ice House. This restaurant is a cool place to go after work, meet up with friends, watch sporting events, or grab a bite after being on the trail. I have walked on the trail and been to the restaurant and find it a great activity to do when the weather is nice!
Looking for something to do on a Saturday morning? Well look no further, the Dallas Farmers Market is a great place to be, located among the skyscrapers, the market has a great view of downtown. Along with the view, the market is filled with a variety of local goods! The best time to visit the farmers market is during the weekend when both The Market and The Shed are open. The Market and The Shed are two different parts that make up the farmers market. At The Shed you can expect to find local vendors selling fresh produce to handmade products. It is an all in one stop shop where you can buy your fruits and candles. As for The Market, daily you can eat and shop at the restaurants and shops there.
Whether football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, or motorsport is your sport, Dallas has it all. To me it is absolutely crazy the amount of professional teams or sporting events that are hosted in Dallas or in the DFW area. Growing up my family would attend Dallas Stars and FC Dallas games which I missed when moving to college. Now that I am back, I am excited to be able to go to games again! Not to mention, depending on which sports are in season, games happen all week so it could be a fun weeknight or weekend activity.
Dallas is no different and has adopted the game of pickle ball similar to many other cities. Before graduating, my college city opened a Chicken N Pickle which became all the rage as college students and young adults found the game to be a fun time. In college I did not get the chance to go, but heard from all my friends that I will have to try it. Along with Chicken N Pickle, Dallas also has other fun activity places such as the Electric Shuffle, Bowl & Barrel, and Another Round. These activities could make for a great mid-week break, chill night on the weekend, or date night.
Going to concerts is one of my favorite activities to do! I honestly do not know where I would be without music. Music has been a part of some of my greatest memories such as jamming out on long road trips, going to concerts in a different country, and helping me through my first half marathon. In Dallas, there are many music venues, whether that be Toyota Stadium, American Airlines Center, AT&T Stadium, or Dos Equis Pavilion that host concerts throughout the year. So whether you jam out to rock, country, rap, pop, or another genre, Dallas has a concert for you.
Also, if you are willing to travel, Austin which is about 3 hours from the city host Austin City Limits (ACL). I have heard great things about ACL and one year I would like to go. After attending my first festival while I was studying abroad in Spain, I have wanted to attend ACL among others. The vibes and atmosphere at festivals make for a great time and an experience you will never forget.
Every now and then having a good laugh is good for the soul. And what is better place to have a good laugh than a comedy club? Answer…no where! Comedy shows in Dallas is something new to me and something I did not realize Dallas had. For me I knew about sports, music, and museums, but that was it. Coming home, I have discovered that there is more to the city such as these clubs. So, after some discovery and looking into new activities in Dallas, I have found two clubs that I am interesting in going to. The clubs are the Four Day Weekend and Dallas Comedy Club.
Nowadays it feels like you have to spend money in order to do something or have fun. I know in the past that having to spend money is the reason why I have not done a certain activity or gone somewhere. It can be hard to find activities that cost no money or little money, but luckily for those in the Dallas area there is the Dallas Museum of Arts (DMA). For the museum’s collection and most exhibitions, the price of admission is free. Here and there the museum will have special exhibitions and the admission for those will be at a cost. Note for the DMA you will need a ticket to enter, but can get one at no cost by signing up online.
If the weather is nice, head across the street to Klyde Warren Park. It is a park that is perfect for those of all ages where there is a playground for kids, grass areas to chill or roam around, and a variety of tasty food trucks. Every once in a while there will be events hosted there or live music.
Calling all those 21 and up, the Perot Museum has a fun night just for you. On Thursdays, the Perot Museum hosts “Thursdays on Tap” where those who are 21 and up are able to experience the museum after hours. Along with getting to explore the museum, the Perot also invite local musicians and food truck to the event. It makes for a great night of fun, music, and food. Whether or not you are 21, the Perot Museum is a good time and is worth the visit besides on Tap Night. If you have ever been to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the Perot reminds me of that museum.
Over the years, to me, it feels like fitness classes have been gaining traction. Going to places such as OrangeTheory, CYCLEBAR, Barre, or others have become big among those who are young adults. For me, I am no different and that I enjoy these fitness classes. By going to these classes, I am able to get a good workout in, but do not have to stress about creating a workout plan. Along with these classes taking away the stress that comes with working out, signing up for these classes gives me more motivation. It puts me in the mindset well now I signed up so I have to go through with it.
Trying new classes and adding them into my running routine has been great for having a variety in my workout routine. In the past I knew only doing cardio was not the answer, but the gym always stressed me out. These classes have taken that stress away. If you are looking to change up your routine, try a new class. Maybe you will enjoy it and continue to do it!
If you are a lover of the performing art, but do not have the money or time to travel to Broadway, the Music Hall at Fair Park is the place for you. Each year the Music Hall host a variety of off-Broadway shows among other events. I remember my first show, which was Wicked, the performance was so good that I wanted to see it again the next week. Unfortunately that was not possible, but Wicked came around the next year and I went again. Along with Wicked I have also seen Jersey Boys and a few other musicals. Whether you enjoy musicals or not, you should see at least one performance. Every year there are a few staples along with some new shows on the schedule where I am sure everyone is able to find at least one that peaks their interest.
FRIED FOOD, FRIED EVERYTHING. Going to the State Fair is always a great time and I never leave hungry. If there is one time of the year where eating fried food is okay, it is when the State Fair is open. For me, I go for the food, but there is way more than just food at the fair. There are many rides that cater to all fairgoers whether you are big on rides or not. Make sure to take a ride on the ferris wheel, the view is amazing at the top and even better during sunset. If rides are not your thing, there are games, car shows, performances, and many other activities. Just make sure you get a picture with Big Tex before you leave. You need proof or you did not go!
Similar to most people my age, I spend way too much time on TikTok. And have found myself on food tok, most specifically on Dallas food tok. Which I will say, I am not complaining since it has given me so many places to add to my list. From all these videos, it has help me see that there is variety in Dallas from breakfast, lunch, and dinner spots to Mexican, BBQ, Chinese and more. So regardless of what you are craving or when, Dallas has a place for you to try. Along with that, Dallas has a variety a desserts places to end your night with a sweet treat.
Although these are things to do in Dallas, most cities will have some or all of these activities and places. Maybe your city has something Dallas does not have, but regardless of what your city has there is always something to do! So start exploring, and let me know what you enjoy most about your city.
